Alternative Format Idea #1: Duel Master format (non-Konami sanctioned)
As Yu-Gi-Oh! slowly begins to take on similar traits to American-made rival Magic the Gathering (First turn of duel, turn player does not draw; each player is allowed to play a Field Spell card; card arts; card mechanic timing), why not have that include game formats as well? Ever wondered what it would be like to play the famous Commander formatted game in the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe? Introducing the Duelist Master Format! In this format, we introduce brand-new Deck Master cards to power up your Deck, just like the original Yu-Gi-Oh! duelists had done in the early days of dueling!
Each player will have 1 Deck Master, which will be face-up in their Deck Master Zone (located above the field Spell Zone). Like Yugi's Kuriboh or Kaiba's Kaiser Sea Horse, each Deck Master will have effects that are active throughout the Duel (like that of a continuous Spell card), helping you on your march towards victory! In addition, you can Special Summon your Deck Master to your side of the field with even more effects to boot! However, these Deck Masters are so tuned with their Duelist that if should you defeat your opponent's Summoned Deck Master, you win the game!
Here is a list of Deck Master concepts to give you an idea of what is in store within the Duelist Master format!!

Alternative Format #2: Next Gen Format
The Next Gen Format takes the game of Yu-Gi-Oh! and attempts to create a competitive gaming environment with a little less sensitivity in promoting the format to be a certain way and more on correcting balance within a given card. Some alternative methods utilized would be using an errata on certain cards to help limit their potential for breaking the game in the ways that they were abused in the (as Konami has done to previously banned cards like Dark Strike Fighter, Crush Card Virus, and Ring of Destruction) or to give them similar name to another card thereby limiting the number of copies you can run (an example of cards sharing a name of another card is Cyber Harpie Lady). This format will also allow for the use of certain cards that are banned in the TCG, but with certain limitations (for example, allowing you to use either Pot of Greed or Harpie's Feather Duster in one Deck).
The Next Gen Format, like the Advanced format, will have its own Limited/Forbidden list; unfortunately, not every card ever made can be errata'd/"nerfed"/balanced to the point where it can still be useful while maintaining the integrity of its original purpose in the game. The Limited/Forbidden list will be designed more around overall deck balance in comparison to the game as a whole versus what the game is now, which will hopefully keep certain cards from jumping up and down the ban list (e.g. Chaos Sorceror, who has been banned, limited, semi-limited, and unlimited since its release). Will some of cards in the Next Gen Format be similarly limited/semi-limited/banned like they are in the Advanced format? Yes; there may be some similarities between the Forbidden/Limited lists as this game will be following the release of sets and archetypes that the Advanced Format will be following.
With this format not following the main Yu-Gi-Oh! competition style/format, there is potential for the introduction of format specific cards that are not available in the Advanced format. Also, the use of specific oriaca cards will be permitted for use at tournaments!
With your support, expressed interest, and input in the Next Gen Format, this idea can truly grow and provide a wonderful opportunity to play in a format geared to the benefit of competitive play for all players!
